Daemen Keglers Continue Play At The Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team took part in second day action of the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic this afternoon. The 14-team tournament features some of the top programs in the country and is taking place Jan. 8 through 10 at the South Point Hotel and Casino.

The Wildcats played five matches today, all of which were scored using the traditional format. All five of Daemen's opponents are currently ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top-25 and the Wildcats dropped all five matches.

Despite going winless on the day, Daemen moved up two spots in the overall standings—which are compiled using total pin fall. Daemen entered the day in 13th place and is now in 11th with 8,945 total pins and a 178.9 per game average. McKendree, which entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the country, sits atop the standings with 11,023 total pins and a 220.5 average.

The Wildcats now stand at 28-20 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the day with an 1,127-972 loss to No. 3 Vanderbilt. Junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) bowled a team-high 246 for the Wildcats, , while graduate student Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) posted a 197 and senior Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) rolled a 194.
  • Game two saw the Wildcats fall to No. 10 Maryland Eastern Shore, 1,038-957. Daemen had three bowlers roll a 200 in the match, as Gizicki led the way again with a 221. Nowak followed up her 194 with a 211, while senior Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) posted a 200.
  • The Wildcats faced another top five team in match three, suffering a 1,105-907 setback to No. 4 Nebraska. Aldridge led the way with a 211, while Gizicki continued her strong day with a 200.
  • Daemen then fell to No. 9 Louisiana Tech, 1,036-891. Bartosz was the only Daemen bowler to break the 200 barrier, as she posted a 201. Gizicki saw her streak of 200 games come to an end and posted a 188.
  • Daemen's day came to an end with a 950-801 loss to No. 17 Tulane. Bartosz again led the way with a 192, while Gizicki capped her day with a 181.
  • Senior Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) competed in the first three games for Daemen and rolled a high score of 172 during the loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Freshman Bailey Glass (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) took part in games four and five and posted a 175 in the loss to Louisiana Tech.
  • Gizicki closed out the day ranked 20th among all bowlers with a 207.20 average over the five games. Bartosz ranked 38th (188.80), while Nowak and Aldridge also placed in the top-50. Nowak ranked 42nd(185.20) and Aldridge ranked 47th (173.00).
