Two Early Goals Spark Golden Knights To 3-1 Win Over Wildcats

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose struck for two early goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Daemen University in NCAA Division II men's soccer action here this afternoon. Saint Rose, a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, improved to 4-4-3 on the year. Daemen, a member of the East Coast Conference, fell to 2-8-1.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The hosts opened the scoring in the 10th minute when senior Hilmar Halldorsson scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year.
  • The Golden Knights struck again just three minutes later when graduate student Jose Clemente netted an unassisted goal.
  • Saint Rose took a 2-0 lead into half, but the Wildcats cut the lead in half just 4:29 into the second half when junior Juan Tejeda-Moreno (Chico, Calif.) scored off a feed from sophomore Sujan Rajamohan (Spencerport, N.Y.).
  • The momentum quickly shifted back to the hosts, as Clemente netted his second of the game off a pass from Halldorsson just 3:13 later.
  • Daemen outshot the Golden Knights 6-3 in the second half, but could not net the equalizer.
  • Saint Rose finished with an 11-9 edge in total shots and a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also posted a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Junior Arturo Bustamante (South Gate, Calif.) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made two saves. Freshman Leopold Dufault made three saves for the Golden Knights.
GAME NOTES
  • Today's contest marked just the third all-time meeting between the two schools, and the first since the 2015 season. Saint Rose now owns a 2-1 advantage advantage in the series.
  • Tejeda-Moreno, a transfer from Butte College, netted his first goal as a Wildcat.
  • Daemen has scored 12 goals this season and all 12 have been scored by newcomers.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are idle until next Wednesday (Oct. 18) when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan University for an ECC game.
