Three Second Half Goals Lift Redhawks Past Wildcats

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan University got goals from four different players en route to a 4-2 victory over Daemen University in East Coast Conference men's soccer action this evening at Redhawks Stadium. The host Redhawks snapped a three-match winless streak and improved to 4-5-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the ECC. Daemen fell to 2-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the league.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the scoring just four minutes into the game when senior Dennis Montero Guerrero (Weingarten, Germany) scored his first goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Sujan Rajamohan (Spencerport, N.Y.).
  • The hosts knotted the score at 1-1 in the 15th minute and the Wildcats would take a 2-1 lead into halftime after freshman Elijah Douglas (Clarence, N.Y.) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year with just over eight minutes left in the first half. Junior Rayane Baitiche (Thionville, France) assisted on the goal.
  • Daemen maintained its 2-1 lead until the Redhawks struck for two goals in the span of five minutes midway through the second half.
  • Freshman Myles Palmer tied the game at 62:47 and sophomore Luke Hanes scored what would prove to be the game-winner at 67:33.
  • The Redhawks netted an insurance goal off the foot of senior Tamas Nagy with just under 13 minutes to play.
  • RWU finished with an 12-7 edge in total shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also posted a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • Senior Harry Firth (Reading, England) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made two saves. Junior Caleb DaSilva was credited with one save for the Redhawks.
GAME NOTES
  • Today's contest marked the 26th all-time meeting between the two longtime rivals. RWU now owns an 18-5-3 advantage in the series.
  • Rajamohan has now totaled a team-high three assists on the year.
  • Daemen has scored 14 goals this season and 13 have been scored by newcomers.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return to action Saturday (Oct. 21) when they host regionally ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College. It will mark the final regular-season home game of the season for Daemen.
