Women's Soccer Plays Nationally-Ranked Adelphi To 1-1 Draw

Daemen Runs Its Unbeaten Streak To Eight Games

AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen University and Adelphi University played to a 1-1 draw in a battle of regionally-ranked women's soccer teams today at Karrer Field. Adelphi entered the game ranked second in the East region and 17th nationally by the United Soccer Coaches, while Daemen is ranked 10th in the region. The Wilcats entered the East region rankings for the first time since 2019 this week.

Both teams extended their current unbeaten streaks. Daemen is now unbeaten over its last eight games (6-0-2) and improved to 6-3-2 overall. Adelphi is unbeaten over its last 10 contests and is now 8-1-2 on the year.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Adelphi posted a 9-2 edge in shots in the first half, before Daemen answered with an 8-7 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes.
  • AU had the lone scoring chance of the first half, as a shot by junior Micaella Romangno with just over two minutes left before halftime forced Daemen netminder Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) to make a diving save.
  • The Panthers nearly opened the scoring five minutes into the second half, but Schultz came up with another big save—this time off a shot by junior Carly Issing.
  • Daemen had a solid chance in the 61st minute, but a shot by senior Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) from 20 yards out sailed just over the AU net.
  • The hosts broke the stalemate three minutes later. Amato had control of the ball just outside the AU box and sent a pass to junior Ramone Trentin (São Leopoldo, Brazil). Trentin then slid a pass to Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), and Miranto blasted a shot past AU netminder Krista Aliscio from 15 yards out.
  • Schultz was called on to make two more big saves in the 79th and 81st minutes, but the Panthers eventually evened the score in the 83rd minute.
  • Sophomore Dylann Trahey tracked down the ball in the corner and sent a perfect crossing pass to the front of the Daemen net where classmate Gia Mandile deflected the ball into the left corner.
  • Daemen outshot the Panthers 3-1 down the stretch but could not regain the lead.
  • AU finished with a 16-10 edge in total shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Panthers also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Schultz, the reigning East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, made four saves. Aliscio stopped two shots for the Panthers.
GAME NOTES
  • Today's contest marked the first even meeting between the two schools.
  • Daemen's eight match unbeaten streak is the longest for the Wildcats since they opened the 2019 season 6-0-2.
  • Miranto has scored in six of the last seven games and has recorded a point in seven-straight contests. She leads the ECC in goals (10) and points (23).
  • Miranto is the first Daemen player to net 10 or more goals in a season since Jamie Boyer netted 18 in 2019.
  • Schultz has allowed just five goals over the last eight games and leads the ECC in save percentage (850).
