Wildcats and Redhawks Battle To 0-0 Draw

Daemen Extends Its Unbeaten Streak To A School-Record Nine Games

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Daemen University and Roberts Wesleyan University played to a 0-0 draw in a battle of regionally-ranked women's soccer teams tonight at Redhawks Stadium. Roberts Wesleyan entered the game ranked seventh in the East region by the United Soccer Coaches, while Daemen is ranked ninth. The teams also sit atop the East Coast Conference standings.

Both teams extended lengthy unbeaten streaks. RWU is unbeaten over its last 10 games and is now 9-1-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the ECC. The Wildcats are unbeaten over their last nine games (6-0-3) and are now 6-3-3 overall and 4-0-1 in the league. The nine-game unbeaten streak is the longest in program history.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The host Redhawks posted an 8-4 edge in shots in the second half and finished with a 13-8 advantage overall. RWU also finished with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal, as all six of RWU's shots on goal came after intermission.
  • The hosts nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute. A shot from in close by sophomore Kara Choate was saved by Daemen netminder Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.). Choate collected the rebound and got another shot off, but that shot was cleared away by Wildcat defender Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.).
  • Daemen nearly scored less than three minutes into the contest. Senior Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) broke down the right flank and sent a low shot towards the lower left corner that RWU netminder Nicolette Knauf tipped just wide.
  • Schultz made five saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Knauf stopped four shots for the Redhawks.
GAME NOTES
  • Today's contest marked the 27th all-time meeting between the two rivals. Daemen is 4-1-2 against the Redhawks over the last seven meetings, but RWU owns a 12-10-5 advantage in the series.
  • It was just the second time in the all-time series the teams have played to a scoreless tie.
  • Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) saw her streak of seven-straight contests with at least one point come to an end. She leads the ECC in goals (10) and points (23).
  • Miranto is the first Daemen player to net 10 or more goals in a season since Jamie Boyer netted 18 in 2019.
  • Schultz has allowed just five goals over the last nine games and leads the ECC in save percentage (859).
