Wildcats Cruise Past Spartans On Senior Night

Miranto Nets Her Second Hat Trick Of The Year; Scalisi And Amato Also Score

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) recorded her second three-goal hat trick of the year and also assisted on a goal to lead regionally-ranked Daemen University to a 5-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in East Coast Conference women's soccer action tonight at Williamsville South High School.

Daemen, which entered the game ranked ninth in the East region by the United Soccer Coaches, improved to 7-3-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the ECC.  The Wildcats are unbeaten over their last 10 games (7-0-3), which ranks as the longest unbeaten streak in program history. STAC dropped to 2-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the league.

Daemen remains in second place in the ECC standings and is just one win away from securing a top-two seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament and a first-round bye.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The host Wildcats opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game when Miranto scored off a nice feed from junior defender Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.).
  • Daemen took control midway through the first half with two goals in the span of five minutes.
  • Fifth-year senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) scored off a rebound of a Miranto shot at 22:22 and Mirnato netted her second of the game off a feed from senior Lauren Cuisia (Mississauga, Ont.) at 27:50.
  • The Wildcats struck for two more goals just two minutes apart early in the second half to secure the win.
  • Senior Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Scalisi at 53:16 and Miranto completed her hat trick—with Scalisi picking up her second assist of the night—at 55:57 to give hosts a 5-0 lead.
  • STAC avoided the shutout when senior Ella Connolloy scored for the Spartans with 22:39 to play.
  • The Spartans finished with a 19-10 edge in total shots and a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) went the distance in net for the Wildcats and equaled her season-high for saves with 12.
GAME NOTES
  • Today's contest marked the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools. Daemen has prevailed in the last four meetings and owns an 8-2-1 advantage in the series.
  • The 2023 Senior Class—consisting of Scalisi, Amato, Gretchen Beyer (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Demi McCalliog (Wolverhampton, England)—were honored during a pre-game ceremony.
  • Miranto has recorded at least one point in nine of Daemen's 13 games and has totaled a league-high 13 goals and 30 points. She has scored 13 goals on just 21 shots on goal this year.
  • Miranto is the first Daemen player to net 10 or more goals in a season since Jamie Boyer netted 18 in 2019.
  • Scalisi has now totaled two goals and four assists this season and 11 goals, 14 assists and 36 points over her career.
  • Amato increased her season totals to two goals, four assists and eight points.
  • Schultz has allowed just six goals over the last 10 games and leads the ECC in save percentage (867).

The Wildcats return to action Tuesday (Oct. 24) when they travel across town to take on D'Youville University in an ECC match.
