Mercyhurst, which entered the game ranked No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II national poll, improved to 8-1-0 on the year. Daemen dropped to 2-6-1. HIGHLIGHTS The hosts opened the scoring eight minutes into the game when Sumner netted his first of the game of a pass from junior Frank Lovett. The score remained 1-0 until the Lakers struck again with just 3:21 left in the first half. Senior Carlos Cueva scored his first of the season off a feed from junior Jorge Tallada Tores. Mercyhurst was awarded a penalty kick just three minutes into the second half and Sumner converted the opportunity for his team-leading seventh goal of the year. The Lakers closed out the scoring in the 56th minute following an unassisted goal by senior Andreas Rossak. The Lakers finished with a 17-3 edge in total shots and a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also posted a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior Harry Firth (Reading, England) started in goal for Daemen and made three saves. Junior Arturo Bustamante (South Gate, Calif.) played the final 28:17 and did not record a save. Freshman Jamie Tedaldi made two for the Lakers. GAME NOTES Tonight's contest marked just the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools. The Lakers have prevailed in all four meetings. UP NEXT The Wildcats return to action Saturday (Oct. 7) when they return to East Coast Conference play with a home match against Molloy University.
