Hemphill Earns ECC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. – Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Daemen University men's basketball team has been honored by the East Coast Conference for his play last week. Hemphill was selected the ECC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for games played Nov. 20-26. The announcement of award winners was made via the league's weekly sport report, which was released this afternoon. It marks the third-straight week that a player from Daemen has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week. Graduate student Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) collected the award the past two weeks.

It is the fourth time in his career that Hemphill has collected a weekly honor from the ECC. He was named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week three times last year. Hemphill helped the Wildcats limit their two opponents to 69 points per game during a 2-0 week. Daemen also collected 29 steals and forced 42 turnovers during the wins over Slippery Rock University and Clarion University. The Hemphill scored a season-high 22 points in the win over SRU and capped the week with his second double-double of the season, as he totaled 13 points and 11 rebounds (7 defensive) in the win over Clarion. He also totaled three assists and a career-high six steals against Clarion. Over the two games he shot 75-percent (15-20) from the field and averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.

Hemphill has played in all nine games this season and is averaging 9.3 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. He has totaled a team-high 25 offensive rebounds and also ranks third in assists (18) and second in steals (13).

Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) has also recognized for his play last week, as he was named to the weekly ECC honor roll. Fasoyiro shot 50-percent (13-26) from the field and averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals last week. He racked up 23 points and a career-high six steals in the win over Slippery Rock. Fasoyiro has started all nine games and is averaging a team-high 15.6 points. He also ranks second on the team in three-pointers (16) and steals (13).

Daemen has won five of its last six games and stands at 6-3 on the year. The Wildcats return to action Saturday (Dec. 2) when they host Roberts Wesleyan University.
