AMHERST, N.Y. – Seven members of the Daemen University women's soccer team have been named to the 2023 All-East Coast Conference team. The announcement of the team was made this afternoon. In addition, sophomore forward Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Year and freshman midfielder Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) was voted the ECC Rookie of the Year.
Miranto and Carpenter were both first-team All-ECC selections along with senior midfielder Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) and junior defender Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N. Y.). Sophomore goaltender Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) was named to the second team, while senior forward Brooke Amato (Grand Island, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.) all collected third team honors.
The seven honorees ties the program record for most selections established in 2021.
Miranto becomes the first player in program history to be named ECC Offensive Player of the Year. A four-time ECC Player of the Week selection during the year, she registered three hat tricks on the year and has totaled a league-leading 16 goals and 36 points. She has recorded at least one goal in nine of Daemen's 15 games and ranks third nationally in goals per game (1.07) and fourth nationally in points per game (2.40). She earned third-team All-ECC honors as a freshman last year after she ranked second on the team in goals (5) and points (11). Miranto has already racked up 47 points (21 gls, 5 asts) over her career and has recorded at least one point in 14 of her last 19 games dating back to the end of last season. A product of North Tonawanda High School, Miranto is also a member of the Daemen women's lacrosse team and totaled eight goals and eight assists in the team's inaugural season last spring.
Carpenter joins Diaz as the only players in program history to collect ECC Rookie of the Year honors. A two-time ECC Rookie of the Week selection during the year, she posted a pair of multi-goal games during the season and ranks second on the team in goals (5) and points (13). A product of Lyman Memorial High School, she has started all 15 games this season and leads the team in shots (42).
Diaz was moved from forward to defense this season and earns all-conference honors for the third-straight season. She was a first-team selection at forward and the ECC Rookie of the Year in 2021 and last year was a second-team selection at forward. She was moved to defense this season by head coach Dan Dolan and did not miss a beat, as she headed up a defense that ranks third in the league in fewest goals allowed (15). She also managed to contribute two goals and an assist on the year. The first player in program history to collect a major post-season honor from the league, she has played in all 48 games (47 starts) over her three-year career and has totaled 15 goals, seven assists and 37 points.
Zeitz, Schultz, Amato and Hahn all earn all-conference honors for the first time in their career.
Zeitz started all 15 games and has totaled two goals and six points. Both of her goals came via a penalty kick and both were game-winners, as she netted the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Queens and broke a 1-1 tie in a 4-1 win over Molloy. She also ranks second among field players in minutes played this season (1,230). A four-year member of the program, Zeitz has played in all 52 games (45 starts) over the past four years and has totaled five goals, seven assists and 17 points.
Schultz has been outstanding in her first season as the starting goalkeeper. A five-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week selection during the year, she has played every minute in goal this season and has allowed just eight goals over the last 12 games. She is averaging nearly seven saves per game and has made 10 or more saves in a game four times this season. She posted a career-high 12 saves in a 1-1 tie at Chestnut Hill and equaled that mark in a 5-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. Among the ECC leaders, she ranks first in save percentage (.872), second in total saves (102), third in shutouts (5) and fifth in goals against average (1.00). Her .872 save percentage ranks 14th nationally among NCAA Division II players.
Amato started all 15 games this year and totaled two goals, four assists and eight points. She also ranked third on the team in shots with 31. She netted Daemen's first goal in a 4-1 win over Molloy and scored Daemen's fourth goal in a 5-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. A four-year member of the team, she has played in 44 of 52 games (35 starts) over her career and has totaled 14 goals, five assists and 33 points.
Hahn turned in a solid season on the back line and was a big part of a defense that ranks third in the league in fewest goals allowed (15). She recorded her first collegiate point during a 6-1 win over the College of Staten Island, as she assisted on Daemen's third goal in the contest. She also ranks second overall and first among field players in minutes played this season (1,251). A product of Lancaster High School, Hahn ranked third overall in minutes played as a freshman and has started all 31 games over the past two seasons.
