ERIE, P.A. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday evening in a match played at Westwood Racquet Club. The Wildcats, who split their opening weekend with a win over Rochester Institute of Technology and a loss to Niagara, dropped their third straight to move to 1-3 in the spring. Mercyhurst moves to 2-1.
The Lakers opened the match with a sweep in doubles to take the first point as per NCAA Division I/II scoring. The Wildcats fought hard on the day. Mercyhurst's Lukas Cabue topped Zach LaPlante (Ottawa, Ont.) 6-0, 6-2 in No. 4 singles to open up the scoring for the Lakers. In No. 3 singles, Hristo Plasheski beat
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands), 6-0, 6-3, followed by Noha Desousa's win over
Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. Senior
Luis de Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) took Ben Davis to the edge in the second set but ultimately fell in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Avik Agrawal topped
Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles. After returning to the lineup on Saturday, freshman
Adam Pasierb (Lancaster, N.Y.) fell to Juan Carlos Hernandez, 6-2, 6-4 in No. 5 singles. Mercyhurst swept all six singles matches to take the match, 7-0.
