The 11-team tournament features six teams (Caldwell University, Daemen, Kutztown University, Mercyhurst University, Molloy University and Wilmington University) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 10. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington. The Wildcats played five matches today, four against an opponent and one blind match. All of today's matches were scored using traditional format. Daemen posted wins over Caldwell, Kutztown, D'Youville University and Holy Family University, before closing the day with the blind round. The four wins improved the Wildcats to 6-3 during the tournament. Daemen has won 12 of its last 16 matches and stands at 41-26 on the year. Daemen entered the day in fourth place and moved up to second in the standings—which are compiled using total pin fall. Daemen posted 4,934 total pins today and has a two-day total of 9,340 pins for a 186.8 per game average. Mercyhurst University sits atop the standings with 9,385 total pins. Daemen (9,340), Wilmington (9,288), Chestnut Hill College (9,143) and Caldwell (8,827) round out the top five. HIGHLIGHTS Daemen opened the day with a 1,014-944 win over Caldwell. Senior Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) rolled a 256 to lead the way, while classmate Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) posted a 225. Daemen then defeated Kutztown, 962-824, in a battle of nationally ranked teams. Freshman Bailey Glass (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) led the way with a 231, while senior Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) added a 224. The Wildcats made it three-straight wins following a 980-871 win over cross-town rival D'Youville. The Wildcats have now defeated the Saints in each of the last nine meetings. Bartosz (235) and Nowak (209) led the way, while Bergeron posted a 192. Daemen then posted a 945-596 win over Holy Family behind the play of Bergeron (233) and Nowak (210). The Wildcats capped the day with 1,033 pins during the blind round. Bartosz capped off her strong day with a 246, while junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) rolled a 242. Nowak registered her third-straight 200 game with a 228. Nowak, Bartosz, Bergeron and graduate student Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) each competed in all five matches today. Nowak, Bartosz and Bergeron all finished among the Top-10 bowlers in the tournament who competed in all five matches. Nowak placed second among all bowlers with a 213.80 average. Bartosz finished sixth (209.20) and Bergeron placed 10th (197.20). Aldridge rolled a 191 in the win over Holy Family and finished with a 174.40 average. Glass competed two matches and posted a 198.5 average. Gizicki, junior Emma Smith (Williamsville, N.Y.) and freshman Kayla Richardson (Webster, N.Y.) both competed in one match. Gizicki rolled the 234 in the blind match, Smith recored a 170 in the win over Cladwell and Richardson posted a 152 in the win over Holy Family. UP NEXT Day three gets underway at 9 a.m. tomorrow, with all matches being Baker best-of-seven format. The Wildcats will open the day against top seeded Mercyhurst, with the winner advancing to the championship match.
