Daemen, which has won six straight and 15 of its last 17 games, improved to 18-7 overall and 11-4 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy saw its two-game winning streak come to an end and fell to 5-19 overall and 2-12 in the league. The Wildcats remain in second place in the league standings with one game left in the regular season. The Wildcats entered the game ranked ninth in the latest D2SIDA East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS MacDonald, who scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half, connected on 6-of-9 shots overall and canned 3-of-4 from downtown. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) went 5-of-7 from the field and totaled 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) went 3-of-4 from downtown and totaled nine points, four rebounds and three assists. Mason entered the game ranked third among all NCAA Division II players in three-point field goal percentage and is now shooting 51-percent (72-for-142) from behind the arc on the year. Sophomore Payton Shumpert (Syracuse, N.Y.) drilled three three-pointers and scored nine points. Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) saw his consecutive streak of games in double figures halted at 11, but still totaled seven points, eight rebounds and four assists today. Junior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.), who scored career-high 21 points in a win over nationally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas Friday night, also totaled seven points and eight rebounds—along with two steals and two blocks. Freshman Ben Bill (Hamburg, N.Y.) equaled his season high with seven points and hauled in seven rebounds in just 12 minutes. Senior guard Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) totaled six points and three assists, while freshman guard Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.) also netted six points. Junior forward Jayden Dewaal led the Mavericks with 10 points and nine rebounds. GAME NOTES Daemen has prevailed in all 20 meetings between the two schools. Daemen is the league leader in fewest points allowed per game (64.9). Daemen has now limited 16 of its 25 opponents to less than 70 points. The Wildcats are 14-2 this season when they limit their opponent to less than 70 points. The Wildcats are shooting 55-percent (188-342) from the field overall and 48.5-percent (63-130) from three-point land during their current six game winning streak. Daemen has won its last six games by an average of 22 points per game. Daemen held a 15-12 lead seven minutes into the game when a three-pointer by Mason sparked the hosts on a 15-3 run. A three-pointer by Shumpert with 6:32 left in the half capped the spurt and gave the Wildcats a 30-15 lead. Another three-pointer by Mason with just over two minutes left in the half gave Daemen its largest lead of the half, 40-24, and the Wildcats would take a 45-32 lead into halftime. Daemen opened the second half with a 10-2 run and later took a 63-36 lead following a conventional three-point play by Hemphill with 13:32 left to play. Mercy came no closer than 21 points the rest of the way. Daemen shot 61-percent (17-for-28) from the field in the first half and finished 54-percent (31-for-57) from the field overall. The Wildcats went 10-for-21 from three-point land and made 10-of-19 free throws. Mercy shot 36-percent 20-of-56 from the field overall and was just 3-for-17 from three-point land. The Mavericks made 8-of-13 free throws. Daemen finished with a 42-30 edge in total rebounds and the Wildcats also held a 38-22 advantage in points in the paint. The Wildcats also held a 22-8 advantage in points off turnovers. NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen closes out the regular season Saturday (Feb. 25) when it hosts D'Youville University in an ECC game.
