Daemen, which has won 13 of its last 15 games, improved to 16-7 overall and 9-4 in the East Coast Conference. The host Redhawks dropped to 8-12 overall and 6-6 in the league. Daemen's win, combined with Molloy's loss to District of Columbia tonight, moved the Wildcats into a tie for second place in the league standings with Molloy with three games left in the regular season. The Wildcats entered the game ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS Six different Wildcats made at least one three-pointer in the game. Daemen made its first 10 three-pointers and finished 15-of-22 from downtown in the game. Senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) went 3-of-5 from long range and scored a team-high 16 points. He also contributed four rebounds and three assists. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) enjoyed a productive homecoming, as he went 5-of-9 from downtown and totaled 15 points and three assists. It marks the second-straight game he has made five triples in a game. Mason entered the game ranked third among all NCAA Division II players in three-point field goal percentage and is now shooting 49-percent (64-for-131) from behind the arc on the year. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) registered his second double-double of the year, as he finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) scored in double figures for the 10th-straight game and totaled 11 points and four rebounds. Senior Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) played a team-high 36 minutes and totaled 10 points. The ECC leader in assist/turnover ratio, he dished out a season-high seven assists and did not commit a turnover. Solid bench support came in the form of freshman guard Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.), sophomore guard Payton Shumpert (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior forward Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.). Glover played 20 minutes, went 2-of-4 from downtown and totaled eight points and three assists. Shumpert was 2-for-2 from behind the arc and scored eight points in just eight minutes. Hemphill chipped in four points, five rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes. Junior guard Ja'Kair Sanchez paced the Redhawks with 15 points and five rebounds. GAME NOTES Daemen has now prevailed in 26 of the last 27 meetings between the two longtime rivals and the Wildcats now own a 48-12 advantage in the all-time series. It marked the second time in the past four games that all five Daemen starters have scored in double figures. Daemen has won four-straight games and has finished with at least four players in double figures in all four games. Daemen has made at least 10 three-pointers in each of the last three games. The Wildcats have now made at least 10 triples in a game nine times his season. Daemen entered the game ranked first among ECC teams in fewest points allowed per game (65.9) and has now limited 14 of its 23 opponents to less than 70 points. The Wildcats are 12-2 this season when they limit their opponent to less than 70 points. Daemen made its first 13 shots from the field. The Wildcats held a 14-12 lead when back-to-back three-pointers by MacDonald and Fasoyiro sparked the visitors on a 21-6 run that gave the Wildcats a 35-18 lead. Daemen made five three-pointers during the run and a layup by freshman Ben Bill (Hamburg, N.Y.) with 9:25 left before halftime capped the rally. Daemen later took a 20-point lead, 46-26, after Mason drilled a triple with 5:43 left in the half and the Wildcats would take a 50-35 lead into intermission. Daemen took a 68-48 lead following a bucket by Shumpert with 10:53 left to play, but the Wildcats went scoreless for the next 5:14. RWU chipped away at the Daemen lead and the Redhawks eventually made it an eight-point game, 68-60, after senior Abou Gbane made two free throws with just over six minutes to play. Back-to-back three-pointers by Mason then sparked the Wildcats on an 8-0 run, and the Wildcats later took an 86-61 lead following back-to-back dunks by Atkins. Mason has made 64 three-pointers on the year and is the first Daemen player to make 60 or more triples in a year since current assistant coach Jeff Redband made 100 in 2019-20. Daemen shot a sizzling 74-percent (20-for-27) from the field overall and 10-of-13 from three-point land in the first half. The Wildcats shot a season-high 62-percent (34-of-55) from the field overall. Daemen went 5-of-11 from the charity stripe. RWU connected on 23-of-60 shots (38%) overall and made just 5-of-22 three-point attempts. The Redhawks made 14-of-20 free throws. Daemen finished with a 36-27 edge in total rebounds and the Wildcats also held a 36-28 advantage in points in the paint. The Redhawks forced 15 turnovers and finished with a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
