Daemen improved to 2-3 on the year, while the visiting Golden Knights remained winless (0-4). The 2023 campaign marks the inaugural season for Daemen, which officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021. Today's win marked the first-ever home victory in program history. Day was awarded the free position shot after she was fouled in front of the Gannon net. Day wasted no time once play resumed and fired a low shot between the legs of Gannon netminder Riley Finnegan. Day's game-winner came just 37 seconds after Gannon tied the game following a free position goal by freshman Charlie Hunter. Graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) totaled a team-high seven points (3 gls, 4 asts) for the Wildcats. It marks the second time this season she has totaled seven points in a game, as she also totaled three goals and four assists in a season opening 14-10 win at Lake Erie College. Junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored five goals and picked up an assist. The five goals equal her season high, which she first recorded in the win over Lake Erie. Decatur has totaled a team-high 19 points on the year, while Bacher has scored a team-high 11 goals. Freshman Abbey Kamas (Horseheads, N.Y.) added two goals and three assists for the Wildcats, while fellow rookie Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) scored three times. Junior Macy Hepditch paced the Golden Knights with five goals and one assist, while classmate MacKenna Woodworth added three goals and two assists. Kamas gave Daemen a 3-1 lead with just under four minutes left in the first quarter, but Gannon scored the next five goals to take a 6-3 advantage. Bouley and Bacher scored back-to-back goals midway through the second quarter to make it a 6-5 game, but junior Skyler Parsons scored with just 26 seconds left before halftime and the visitors took a 7-5 lead into the break. Woodworth gave Gannon an 8-5 lead early in the third quarter, but a man-down goal by Kamas sparked the Wildcats on a 4-0 run that gave the hosts a 9-8 lead. Neither team led by more than a goal after that until the Wildcats opened up a 13-11 lead after Decatur and Bacher scored back-to-back goals late in the fourth quarter. Hepditch converted a free position shot with 1:08 left to make it a one-goal game, and Hunter tied the game with 39 seconds left. Bouley won the ensuing draw control, which gave the Wildcats possession for the final 35 seconds. Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and stopped nine shots. Finnegan also finished with nine saves for Gannon. Day equaled her season-high for draw controls with 10. Daemen posted a 32-26 advantage in total shots and a 23-22 edge in shots on goal. Daemen finished with a 17-14 edge in draw controls. Daemen returns to action Wednesday (March 15) when it travels to Alfred University for a non-league game.
