Balanced Attack Leads Wildcats To 14-3 Win Over Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's lacrosse team got goals from seven different players en route to a 14-3 victory over Alfred University this afternoon at Yunevich Stadium on the Alfred campus.

Daemen improved to 3-3 on the year following its second-straight victory, while the host Saxons dropped to 0-2. The 2023 campaign marks the inaugural season for Daemen, which officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021. Today's win gives the Wildcats their first-ever winning streak in program history, as Daemen was coming off a thrilling 14-13 win over Gannon University this past Sunday.

Junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.), the reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, led the Wildcats with three goals and two assists, while graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) totaled two goals and two assists. Freshmen Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) and Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) both finished with three goals and one assist. Freshman Abbey Kamas (Horseheads, N.Y.) registered a team-high three assists. Sophomore Ameila Booth scored two of AU's three goals.

Castner opened the scoring just 16 seconds into the game and the Wildcats later took a 3-1 lead after junior Katlyn Puccio (Rochester, N.Y.) scored her first career goal with 7:11 left in the first quarter. Decatur scored back-to-back goals late in the first quarter and Daemen took a 5-1 lead into the second frame. The score remained 5-1 until late in the second quarter when Bouley scored back-to-back goals to give the Wildcats a 7-1 halftime lead.

Daemen outscored the Saxons 4-0 in the third quarter and took an 11-1 lead into the final quarter. Sophomore Olivia Wade (Eden, N.Y.) scored the final goal for Daemen with just under four minutes left to play, marking her first career goal.

Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and was credited with one save. Junior Alyssa Piechota stopped 15 shots for the Saxons.

Sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with five draw controls, while Bouley caused six Alfred turnovers and collected four ground balls.

Daemen posted a 39-8 advantage in total shots and a 29-4 edge in shots on goal. Daemen finished with a 13-3 edge in draw controls and the Wildcats were a perfect 12-for-12 in clear attempts.

Daemen will head to Ohio for two non-conference games this weekend. The Wildcats play at Findlay University Friday and at Ashland University Sunday.
