AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team dropped their first East Coast Conference match of the season in a 6-1 loss to the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday night. The Wildcats move to 4-7 in the spring and 0-1 in ECC play, while UDC improves to 4-8 on the year and 1-1 in conference matches.
The Firebirds picked up the first point of the match after winning two of the three doubles matches, as per NCAA Division II scoring. The Daemen senior doubles pairing of
Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.) won No. 2 doubles 6-4 over UDC's Jake Bedforth and Oskar Karos. In singles play, UDC would go on to take five of the six match ups and win the match, 6-1. Laplante was the sole Daemen singles winner, handling Bedforth 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles to earn the Wildcats' one point in the match.
