KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team won their second match of the spring, putting together a perfect 7-0 sweep over Kutztown University on Saturday evening at the Hillcrest Racquet Club. It marked the first sweep of the season for the Wildcats.
For the first time this spring, the Wildcats came out on top in doubles. The senior duo of
Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and
Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.) topped Sebastian Arizpe and Justin Gincauskas 6-3 in No. 2 doubles. The Wildcats took the first point of the match, as per NCAA Division II scoring, with a No. 1 doubles victory by
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Luis De Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) topping Joaquin Perez and Neal Devkaren 6-3.
Daemen kept the intensity up in singles play. Lumanog continued the Wildcat scoring with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Perez in No. 1 singles, and Vance kept up the winning ways, taking No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1 over Arizpe. De Vuyst put Daemen up 4-0 with a three-set No. 2 singles win over Devkaren, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) topped Emmitt Robinson 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles for Daemen's fifth point and the match victory.
Adam Pasierb (Lancaster, N.Y.) came out on top in No. 6 singles, 8-6, while Laplante beat Gincauskas 7-6, 6-3 in No. 5 singles.
