QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Adelphi University on Sunday afternoon at the Alley Pond Tennis Courts. The Wildcats, which picked up their second win of the spring yesterday in a 7-0 sweep over Kutztown, fall to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the spring season.
The Panthers won the first two doubles pairings and picked up the first point of the match as per NCAA Division II scoring rules. Adelphi's Marko Jovanovic and Gabriel Balestero beat
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Luis De Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) 6-2 in No. 1 doubles. The Panthers took doubles after Thomas Horsley and Thiago Negrao topped
Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and
Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) in No. 2 doubles. No. 3 doubles did not finish as Adelphi had already won the doubles point.
Adelphi went on to win the first three singles matches to win the match, 4-0. Balestero topped senior
Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-4 in No. 3 singles. Reinoso beat De Vuyst, 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. Lumanog was defeated by Jovanovic 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles as Adelphi took the match victory. No. 4, 5, and 6 singles were not finished after the match was called.
