Wildcats Fall To Nationally-Ranked Dolphins

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate student Sara Goodwin scored five goals to lead nationally-ranked Le Moyne College to a 19-2 victory over Daemen University in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at the Ted Grant Field on the Le Moyne campus.

Daemen dropped to 1-3 on the year, while the host Dolphins improved to 3-0. Le Moyne, which returns 22 players from last year's team at finished 15-6, is ranked No. 5 nationally by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The 2023 campaign marks the inaugural season for Daemen, which officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021. Le Moyne is the first nationally ranked program the Wildcats have faced.

Freshman Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) and sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored for the Wildcats.

Le Moyne scored three times in the first five minutes of the game and the hosts held a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. The lead was 15-0 when the Wildcats got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Bouley with less than a minute before halftime.

Daemen posted a 7-4 advantage in total shots in the third quarter, but Le Moyne netted the lone goal of the frame, and the hosts took a 16-1 lead into the final quarter. Le Moyne outscored the Wildcats, 3-1, over the final 15 minutes.

Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and stopped 11 shots. Day and Bouley led Daemen with five shots each, while Day and junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) led the Wildcats in draw controls with six each.

Le Moyne finished with a 38-18 edge in total shots and a 30-11 advantage in shots on goal. Daemen finished with a 14-8 edge in draw controls.

Daemen returns to action Friday (March 10) when it hosts Tiffin (Ohio) University in a non-league game.
