FINAL STRETCH
The Daemen University men's tennis team will play its final three matches of the regular season this weekend. The Wildcats will host Queens College on Saturday at the Williamsville South Tennis Courts before hitting the road for a pair of non-league matches against Franklin Pierce University on Sunday evening and Southern New Hampshire on Monday afternoon.

A LOOK BACK AT THE WEEK
The Wildcats split a pair of non-league matches against Southern Virginia and Shenandoah on Tuesday and Wednesday on their road trip to Virginia. Daemen picked up the big 5-4 win over Southern Virginia on Tuesday to win their fifth non-conference match of the season. The Wildcats won two of three doubles pairings, with No. 1 doubles duo of Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Luis de Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) won 7-6, 7-4 and the senior pair of Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.) picked up the 6-4 win in No. 2 doubles. In doubles play, seniors Laplante and de Vuyst along with freshman Lumanog earned victories to snap a five-game skid for the Cats. The Wildcats fought hard on Wednesday against a solid Shenandoah team, but fell to the Hornets 6-3. The freshman doubles pair of Adam Pasierb (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) won 8-3 in No. 3 doubles, then in singles action, Laplante and Pasierb handled their No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, respectively.

SENIORITY
Zachary Laplante is having a solid senior season and leads the team with a 9-6 record in singles play and 5-8 with Vance with his doubles partner on the season. The native Canadian has gone an impressive 8-3 in the No. 5 singles spot this year, and has put together a team-high 5-3 record over the last 10 matches, including two straight singles victories earlier this week. The doubles pair of Laplante and Vance is the winning-est Daemen duo this season, going 4-7 in the No. 2 doubles spot on the year.

FRESH-MAN
Adam Pasierb has come into his own throughout his freshman season, and ranks second on the team in singles play after Laplante with a 5-10 record. Playing in the No. 6 singles position, Pasierb has amassed a 5-4 record over the last nine matches, and along with his fellow freshman Chitanand, the pair has a 3-6 record in No. 3 doubles this season.

UP NEXT
The Wildcats will play in the East Coast Conference Tournament next weekend.
SCOUTING THE QUEENS KNIGHTS
Perennial powerhouse Queens has had a very successful season this year. After dropping their first match of the spring to Monmouth, the Knights went on an eight-match win streak, including wins over NCAA Division I programs Long Island University, Merrimack College and St. Francis College Brooklyn, but saw their win streak snapped by a 2-4 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas on March 24 in their ECC opener. The Knights picked up conference wins over UDC and Daemen, and avenged their earlier loss to STAC with a 4-3 win over the Spartans on April 4. Eight players returned from their 2021-22 team that finished 17-9 and lost 3-4 to Southern New Hampshire in the second round of the NCAA Division II tournament. The Wildcats have never beaten the Knights.

Four players returned from last season's Ravens team that finished with a 7-9 overall record in 2021-22, including seniors Joshua Arnold and Preston Gordon who each have a 6-7 record in singles play and lead the team when paired up in doubles action with a 6-7 record this season.

The Penmen have a 10-5 overall record on the year and a 4-1 record in conference play, with their only loss in NE-10 action coming at the hands of league-leader Adelphi in their first conference match of the season. Sophomore Jonathan Berling leads the Penmen with a 17-6 overall record in singles play, and he has been just as successful in doubles play with graduate student partner Fernando Torres where the pair have a 14-5 overall record, including an 8-4 record in the No. 1 doubles spot.
