BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sophomore Megan Rugolo scored five goals and assisted on four others to lead the Molloy University women's lacrosse team to a 21-10 victory over Daemen University this evening at the Medaille Sports Complex.

Daemen saw its three-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. The 2023 campaign marks the inaugural season for Daemen, which officially announced it was adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport in June of 2021. Molloy, which is receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, ran its winning streak to 10-straight games and improved to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Graduate student Casey Decatur (Apollo Beach, Fla.) and junior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) paced the Daemen offense. Decatur totaled a goal and three assists, while Bacher registered four goals. Sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) added three goals, while freshman Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) chipped in two goals and one assist. Decatur has totaled 27 goals, 33 assists and 60 points this year and leads the ECC in assists. Bacher has now scored a team-high 35 goals.

Molloy scored four unanswered goals in the first 3:21 of the game, but Daemen responded with goals by Decatur, Bacher and Bouley to make it a 4-3 game. A high scoring first quarter ended with Molloy holding a 7-6 lead. The scoring slowed down during the second frame, as the Lions outscored the Wildcats 3-1 in the frame and the visitors took a 10-7 lead into halftime.

Molloy scored the first goal of the second half, but Daemen answered with back-to-back goals by Day to make it a two-goal game, 11-9, with just over five minutes to play in the third. Molloy scored three unanswered goals over the final 3:49 of the third quarter and took a 14-9 lead into the final quarter. Bacher scored just 33 seconds into the fourth quarter, but that would the last goal Daemen would score as the Lions closed out the game with seven unanswered goals.

Freshman Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in net for Daemen and made 11 saves. Junior Mary-Kate Sweeny made five for Molloy.
