Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision To Millersville

Match Versus Kutztown Canceled

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Daemen University men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss at Millersville University Sunday evening. The match was originally set to be played outdoors during the afternoon, but was moved indoors due to rain. The match did not start until 7:30 p.m. and lasted until 11:30 p.m. It marked the first dual match of the year for the host Marauders.

Daemen was scheduled to play at Kutztown University today, but that match was canceled when the courts were deemed too wet to play on. Daemen now stands at 0-2 on the year.

Millersville took all three doubles matches to earn the one point as per NCAA Division II scoring.

Daemen's two points came at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, newcomers Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) and Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) both picked up their first career singles win as a Wildcat. Alvarez, a junior transfer, battled freshman Breno Maciel at No. 3 singles. Alvarez took the first set 6-3, before Maciel answered with a 7-6 win in set two. Alvarez took set three 10-4 to earn the win. Mergens, a freshman, rallied to defeat sophomore Sebas Castro at No. 4 singles. Sebas won the first set 6-3, before Mergens responded with wins in the second (7-6) and third (10-6) sets to get the win.

It marked the seventh all-time meeting between Daemen and Millersvillle. The Marauders have now prevailed in the last four meetings and own a 4-3 advantage in the series.
