School-record efforts by sophomore Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 60-meter hurdles and freshman Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) in the weight throw highlighted the evening for the Wildcats. Daemen also recorded first-place finishes by Schultz in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles and junior Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) in the triple jump. HIGHLIGHTS Schultz took part in four individual events. She qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash after placing second out of 10 entrants in the qualifying round with a time of 8.22 seconds, narrowly missing her personal best time of 8.16 seconds she set at the Houghton December Classic earlier this season. She would go on to place first in the finals with a time of 8.32 seconds. She then qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles dash after placing second out of 10 entrants in the preliminary round with a personal best time of 9.54 seconds. She would establish a new program record and place first in the finals with a time of 9.41 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 9.47 seconds set by Sam Carro at the 2018 Highlander Invitational. Schultz also placed ninth out of 12 in the long jump with a leap of 4.50 meters and third out of six entrants in the triple jump (10.13 meters). Oliver placed fourth out of 22 entrants in the weight throw with a program-record toss of 14.18 meters, eclipsing the previous standard of 13.73 meters set by Skye Dorcely at the 2022 East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Oliver has improved her mark in the weight throw in each of Daemen's four meets this season. She also took part in the shot put and placed first among Daemen throwers and eighth out of 24 overall with a personal best toss of 10.31 meters. Amirato took part in the long jump and the triple jump and was the top Daemen finisher in both events. She placed first out of six in the triple jump with a leap of 10.42 meters and seventh out of 12 in the long jump (4.75 meters) Graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) competed in the 1,000 meters for the first time this season and placed second out of seven runners with a time of 3:11.79. Thomas has competed in six races this season and has posted four first-place finished and two second-place efforts. Senior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) placed second out of 10 runners in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:52.16, which ranks as a personal best at an indoor event for her. Junior Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) also ran the 5,000 meters and placed fifth (19:38.02). Graduate student Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) posted a top-10 finish in the 800 meters, as she placed eighth out of 28 runners with an indoor personal best time of 2:31.47. Sophomore Alexis Rodriguez (Williamson, N.Y.) took part in the 60-meter hurdles and the 300 meters. She qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.49 seconds in the preliminary round and placed seventh in the finals with a time of 10.50 seconds. She tied her personal best time in and placed fourth out of seven sprinters in the 300 meters with a time of 44.87 seconds. Sophomore Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) competed in the mile for the first time in her career and placed 10thout of 25 runners with a time of 5:42.34. Freshman Ileanna Hopkins (Syracuse, N.Y.) took part in the high jump. She placed fourth out of 10 entrants and tied her personal best effort with a leap of 1.47 meters. Daemen had five competitors in both the weight throw and the shot put. Sophomore Samantha Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) placed second among Daemen throwers and eighth overall in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 13.17 meters. Graduate student Tima Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y.) also established a personal mark in the weight throw, placing 10th with a toss of 13.05 meters. Freshman Julia Petry (Batavia, N.Y.) placed second among Daemen throwers and ninth overall in the shot put with a personal best toss of 9.97 meters. UP NEXT The Wildcats are back in action next weekend (Feb. 3) when they take part in the Brockport Multi Invitational hosted by SUNY Brockport.
