The win extended Daemen's home winning streak to 16-straight games dating back to last season. It ranks as the longest home winning streak in the East Region and is fifth longest among all NCAA Division II teams. Daemen, which is ranked eighth in the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) East Region poll, has won four-straight games (and 11 of its last 13) and improved to 12-4 overall. Daemen is off to its best start since the 2019-20 season when the Wildcats won 13 of their first 16 games. Cheyney dropped to 1-12. IMPACT PLAYERS All 12 players that saw action for the Wildcats scored in the game. Redshirt freshman Phil Nwugwo (Rochester, N.Y.) made the most of his career-high 14 minutes, as he connected on 5-of-8 shots and established career-highs for points (10), rebounds (6) and blocks (4). Veterans Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) and Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) also scored 10 points for the hosts, while senior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) totaled nine points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Zach Philipkoski (New Hartford, N.Y.) equaled his season-high for minutes (17) and points (10) and grabbed a season-high six rebounds. Sophomore Josh Haskell (West Seneca, N.Y.) played a career-high 14 minutes and totaled eight points, four rebounds and two assists, while freshman Ryan Heath (Rochester, N.Y.) also established a season-high for minutes (20) and contributed eight points, four assists and two steals. Redshirt freshman Jackson Kulik (Webster, N.Y.) played a career-high 10 minutes, drilled two three-pointers and scored a career-high eight points. Junior Lavion Morales paced the Wolves with 15 points and 10 rebounds. GAME NOTES It marked just the second all-time meeting between the two teams. Daemen has prevailed in both meetings. The Wildcats entered the game allowing just 73.1 points per game and has now held nine of its 16 opponents to less than 70 points. The Wildcats are 9-0 this year when allowing less than 70 points. The teams traded baskets early on and the Wildcats held a 15-12 lead when a fastbreak layup by Haskell sparked Daemen on a 17-2 run. Philipkoski scored five points during the run and his putback with 5:53 left before halftime capped it and gave the hosts a 32-14 lead. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by Kulik gave the Wildcats a 47-25 halftime lead. Daemen held a 24-point lead (57-33) five minutes into the second half and the advantage was 35 points (70-35) at the midway point of the second half. Daemen shot 51-percent (18-35) in the second half and finished 36-for-73 (49%) from the field overall. The hosts made 12-of-37 from downtown and canned 6-of-12 from the charity stripe. Cheyney shot just 31-percent (20-of-65) from the field overall and made just 6-of-20 from downtown. The Wolves made 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen is idle until next weekend when the Wildcats return to conference play by hosting the College of Staten Island (Jan. 12) and the District of Columbia (Jan. 14).
