Men's Soccer Suffers Setback at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Two first-half goals proved to be the difference as Saint Anselm College defeated Daemen University, 2-0, in intercollegiate men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Melucci Field.
 
The Hawks improved to 3-8 and picked up their third consecutive win while the Wildcats dropped to 3-6-2.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Tied 0-0 over midway through the first-half, the Hawks broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute as their leading scorer, Lucas Bravo Olle, fired a ball past the Wildcats into the high left corner of the net off a pass from Aiden Lehane.  
•  Saint Anselm doubled their advantage in the 37th minute as James Poschmann found Chance Prouty less than ten yards from the goal. Prouty collected the pass and found the the back of the net to double the Hawks edge. Bravo Olle earned a secondary assist on the goal as well for his third point of the afternoon.
• Daemen kept Saint Anselm at bay for the remainder of the contest as they allowed no shots on target and blocked three as well.
• David Hood made seven saves for the win while freshman Colin Hockridge (Scarborough, Ont.) made two stops in his collegiate debut. Both played the full 90 minutes as well.
• The Hawks finished the match with a 17-12 edge on total shots but Daemen led in shots on goals, 7-4.
 
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the first meeting between Daemen and Saint Anselm in men's soccer.
• Hockridge is the first true freshman to start in net for the Wildcats since Oct. 27, 2018, when Ethan Hahn started against St. Thomas Aquinas College.
• Sophomore Fabrizzio Jaramillo (Lynwood, Calif.) made his first start since Sept. 21 at the College of Staten Island while fellow sophomore, Will Mueller (Lancaster, N.Y.), appeared in his first contest since Sept. 18 at Goldey-Beacom College.
• Along with Hockridge, senior Juan Tejeda-Moreno (Chio, Calif.), junior Jean Tilo (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) and freshman Niko Elie (Auckland, New Zealand) played the full 90 minutes.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are back in action on Oct. 19 with a road contest at ECC opponent Queens College. Kick-off from Flushing, N.Y., is set for 12 p.m.
