AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen University extended their winning streak to four games with a 2-0 triumph over Roberts Wesleyan University in East Coast Conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Karrer Field.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 4-4 overall and remain unblemished in conference play at 3-0 while the Redhawks dropped to 4-4-1 and 1-2 in ECC action.
HIGHLIGHTS
• The Wildcats peppered Nicolette Knauf early with shots and broke through in the 21
st minute as sophomore
Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) fielded a pass from freshman
Kaitlyn Wright (Geneva, N.Y.) and curled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net from 30 yards out to break the 0-0 deadlock.
• The Cats defense took over the close the opening frame, limiting the Redhawks to just two shots on net the remainder of the half.
• Daemen doubled their advantage just over three minutes into the second stanza and junior
Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) found an open Chloé Cardone (Hilton, N.Y.) in the box. Inside the box, Cardone slid past her defender and found the back of the net for her second career goal.
• Junior Becca Shultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) took over for the remainder of the contest, making seven saves the remainder of the way to secure the 2-0 victory.
• Schultz made 11 saves to earn her fourth win of the season while Knauf tallied three saves in the losing effort.
• Roberts Wesleyan finished the match with a 22-15 edge on shots and 4-1 advance for corners.
GAME NOTES
• The all-time series is now tied, 12-12-5, and Daemen has won four of the last five meetings. Earlier this year, the Wildcats defeated Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, N.Y., 5-2, on Sept. 24
• Today marked the first time since the 2011 season that Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan played each other twice in the regular season
• The Wildcats four game winning streak is the longest since their five-game winning streak last year which spanned from Sept. 23 through Oct. 7, 2023.
• Miranto has now notched at least one point in a season-high four straight games. He longest career streak spanned from Sept. 19 through Oct. 11, 2023, last year.
• Schultz entered the contest fourth in the nation for total saves with 56 and seventh nationally for saves per game at an average of 8.00, both of which lead the ECC as well.
• Along with Schultz, graduate student Maditz Zeitz (Malsch, Germany), senior
Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.), junior
Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.), and Carpenter played the full 90 minutes.
