Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wildcats Tripped Up By Nationally Ranked Golden Knights

AMHERST, N.Y. – Junior goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) faced a barrage of shots and responded with a career-high 16 saves, but it wasn't enough to lead Daemen University past #7 Gannon University in non-conference women's soccer action at a blustery Karrer Field this afternoon. The visiting Golden Knights scored a 3-0 victory to run their unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games.

Gannon, which is also ranked #1 in the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll, improved to 9-0-3 this season. The Golden Knights have not lost since a 1-0 setback to Adelphi University in the 2023 NCAA Division II Championship Final Four.

Daemen, facing their third nationally ranked opponent this season, dropped to 6-7-0 with the loss.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Both teams battled a steady breeze of 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 40, throughout the contest. Gannon went against the wind in the first half, but Daemen couldn't use that to its advantage as the Golden Knights opened the scoring with an unassisted tally by Destinee Robertson in the game's 13th minute.
• It remained just a single-goal deficit for Daemen for nearly 50 minutes, but Gannon controlled the majority of ball possession throughout that span. The Golden Knights doubled their lead when June Monasterio scored in the 62nd minute.
• A short time later, in the 68th minute, Gannon's Ella Fadale provided the game's final goal, scoring off a feed from Gabby Boden.

GAME NOTES
• Today's game marked just the second all-time meeting between Daemen and Gannon, and their first since 2007. Gannon now leads the series 2-0.
• Schultz's career-high save total bested her previous benchmark of 15 which she set earlier this season against nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire. She entered today's game ranked third among all NCAA Division II goalkeepers with 98 saves this season, while also ranking first among East Coast Conference players with a .838 save percentage. Schultz has now made at least 10 saves in four games this season and in eight games during her career.
• Gannon held a 41-0 advantage in total shot attempts today. It's the first time Daemen has been held without a shot since a 5-0 loss at LIU Post on Oct. 20, 2018.
• Daemen is now 0-3 against nationally ranked opponents this season, having suffered earlier defeats to #13 Adelphi and #10 Southern New Hampshire.
