Queens Stuns Women's Volleyball In 3-1 Decision

FLUSHING, N.Y. – For the first time since Nov. 10, 2019, the Daemen University women's volleyball team dropped a regular season conference match, falling to Queens College 1-3 (25-9, 20-25, 22-25, 21-25) on Saturday afternoon to snap a 37-match conference win streak. The Wildcats move to 9-4 on the year and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play while Queens improves to 12-5 and 2-0 in ECC matches. It marked the first time that Queens beat Daemen since 2017.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Graduate student outside hitter Abby Ryan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) led all players offensively with 14 kills on 47 attacks. She added five aces, six digs and one assist for a team-high 19 points.
  • Junior outside hitter Nahirka Malpica (Caguas, P.R.) totaled 10 kills on 26 attacks for a .231 hitting percentage. The junior earned her fifth double-double of the season, totaling 10 digs while adding four aces.
  • Senior setter Avery Dole (Summerfield, N.C.) posted 20 assists and added two aces, one kill, three block assists and six digs.
  • Graduate student libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) led all Wildcats with 21 digs while adding seven assists and one ace.
GAME NOTES
  • The Wildcats cruised to a first-set victory, dominating the Knights after amassing eight service aces and Queens compiling 10 attack errors.
  • For the third straight conference match, the Wildcats dropped the second set as the Knights finished off the second on a 13-7 run while holding Daemen to a .049 hitting percentage in the set.
  • Daemen was down in the third, but on Queens set-point, the Wildcats scored five unanswered to make it a two-point game, 24-22, but a Queens kill ended the set with the Knights up 2-1 over the Wildcats.
  • Queens got off to a hot start in the fourth, leading the Wildcats by as much as 17-10. From there, Daemen went on a 10-3 run to tie the game up at 20. Queens won five of the final six points to take the set, 25-21 to win the match.
  • Daemen and Queens each totaled 40 kills on the day. The Knights out-blocked Daemen 10 to 4.

The Wildcats look to get back on track on Sunday as they play at Molloy University in a noon match.
