Women's Volleyball Sweeps STAC In Final Regular Season Road Match

SPARKILL, N.Y. -- The Daemen University women's volleyball team got back on track after dropping yesterday's match against Mercy, picking up a big 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in their final regular season road game of the season. The Wildcats improve to 16-7 overall and 8-3 in East Coast Conference play while STAC drops to 7-16 on the year and 1-9 in conference matches. 

Despite not having a Wildcat hit double-digit kills in the game, eight Daemen players recorded hits as the Wildcats finished with 34 kills and held the Spartans to 29 on the day. 

The Wildcats will host Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday for Senior Day in the regular season finale at 6:30 PM. 

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Freshman outside hitter Avery Craig (Tomball, Tex.) led the Wildcats offensively with eight kills and added seven digs and a career-high six service aces for 14 points on the day. 
  • Graduate student right side Giselle Giraud (Orlando, Fla.) finished with six kills on 17 attacks with just one error for a .294 hitting percentage while adding four block assists and two digs.
  • Graduate student outside hitter Abby Ryan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) posted six kills, 12 digs, one ace and one block assist.
  • Graduate student libero Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) led the team with 14 digs and added five assists, two aces and one kill.
  • Senior setter Avery Dole (Summerfield, N.C.) finished with 13 assists, four digs, two aces and one kill. Sophomore setter Molly Ryan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) totaled 13 assists, three aces and six digs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Daemen and STAC traded points up to 19 until the Wildcats scored six of the last nine points to take the first set, 25-22. 
  • The Wildcats jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the second off five kills and four aces and kept their foot on the gas to lead by as much as 10, 21-11. Daemen cruised to a 25-15 second set victory. 
  • Daemen led 17-12 late in the third, but STAC came crawling back with a 5-2 run to make it a two-point game, 19-17. The Cats scored six of the final 10 to win the third set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0. 
  • The Wildcats out-blocked the Spartans 8 to 3 in the match and were led by sophomore Amelia Gonzales with four block assists and two solo blocks and Giraud with four block assists.
