Miranto Nets A Pair As Wildcats Blank Saints In Regular Season Finale

Daemen sets sights on conference tournament

AMHERST, N.Y. – Junior forward Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored twice and junior goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) stopped all five shots that came on frame as Daemen University picked up a 2-0 win over crosstown rival D'Youville University in East Coast Conference women's soccer action today at Karrer Field.

The game marked the regular season finale for the Wildcats who even their record at 8-8-0 overall while finishing with a 6-1-0 mark in conference play. Daemen had already clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ECC Championship tournament which gets underway with first-round matchups later this week. Daemen will await the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 seed matchup in the semifinal round to be played next Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at Karrer Field. Final seeds are expected to be announced by the conference office following the conclusion of play today.

D'Youville saw its 2024 season come to a close today. The Saints finish with a 1-12-2 overall record, including a 1-6-0 mark in conference play.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Miranto got the Wildcats on the board in the game's 26th minute when she got just enough of a touch on the ball to flick it past DYU's Haley Pompeo who raced off the goal line to try and get to the ball. The play started in the midfield where Lauren Cuisia (Mississauga, Ont.) found Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) in space. It Carpenter's long through ball that sent Miranto into the box where her touch got the ball under Pompeo and into the net.
  • It remained a 1-0 advantage for Daemen until Miranto struck again in the 71st minute, this time launching a left-footed rocket from the top of the box to the lower right corner of the net. It came after Cuisia deflected a crossing pass from Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) right to the streaking Miranto where she made good on her league-leading 11th goal of the season and the 32nd of her career.
  • Daemen held a 20-8 advantage in total shot attempts and D'Youville didn't muster a shot after Daemen made it a 2-0 game. Schultz went the distance between the pipes and earned her fifth shutout of the season and the 12th of her career.
