Danielle DiCintio (Somers, N.Y.) and
Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) of Daemen University women's basketball earned weekly awards from the East Coast Conference for week 6 of the women's basketball season. DiCintio was named ECC Player of the Week and Pikett was named Defensive Player of the Week, with both Wildcats earning a weekly award for the first time this season. It marks the second straight week that Daemen has swept Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors, as DiCintio and Pikett join
Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) who won both awards last week.
Daemen's top scorer this season, DiCintio was named the ECC Player of the Week after scoring 17 points in each of Daemen's two ECC wins over STAC and Mercy this weekend. The graduate student guard was 9-of-29 from the field and 8-of-23 from beyond the arc on the weekend and finished with seven rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. DiCintio hit five three-pointers against Mercy on Sunday, marking the sixth game this season that she totaled five + three's in a single game. On the year, the graduate guard leads the Wildcats with 12.5 points per game and is a weapon beyond the arc with a league-high .382 three-point field goal percentage (34-of-89) along with a team-high 30 assists, 15 steals and 38 rebounds (3.5 per game).
Earning the ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, Pikett averaged 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks to go with 17.0 points per game in Daemen's pair of ECC victories over STAC and Mercy this weekend. Pikett began the weekend with 17 points and seven rebounds (all defensive) to go with three steals and two blocks in the 58-50 win over the Spartans on Friday night. She then fielded her first career double-double in Sunday's 14-point win over the Mavs, 58-44, totaling 17 points and 10 rebounds (eight defensive) with two steals and two blocks. Pikett has scored in the double-figures in six games this season, including the last three, and ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 9.8 ppg while ranking second on the team defensively with 5.7 rebounds per game. The junior forward leads the team with 14 blocks and 22 steals along with 17 assists and ranks second on the team in three-point field goal percentage (37%), going 17-of-46 on the year.
Riding an eight-game win streak, the Wildcats are soaking up the sun this week in the Hawaiian Islands! Daemen is set to play two games in the Hoops In Hawaii Classic on Friday (Dec. 20) and Saturday (Dec. 21) against Alaska Anchorage and Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
