Nowak and Forsha Pace Wildcats During Day Two Of Wildcat Division II/III Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team took part in second-round action of the Wildcat Division II/III Invitational today. The The 13-team tournament features six teams (Alvernia, Daemen, Emmanuel, Felician, Kutztown, Mercyhurst, ) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 8. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University.

The Wildcats played five matches today. All of today's matches were scored using traditional format. Daemen went 4-1 on the day, posting wins over Adelphi University, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Felician University and Dominican University before suffering a loss to Caldwell University. The Wildcats are now 6-3 during the tournament. Daemen stands at 36-25 on the year.

Daemen entered the day in eighth place and remained in eighth place after the five matches today. The team standings are compiled using total pin fall. Daemen posted 4,633 total pins today and has a two-day total of 9,000 pins for a 180.0 per game average. Wilmington sits atop the standings with 10, 166 total pins. Emmanuel (10,007), Kutztown (9,809), Mercyhurst (9,424) and Felician (9,371) round out the top five.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the day with a 924-759 win over Adelphi. Graduate student Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) led the way with a 234.
  • Daemen then defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 994-766. Nowak continued her solid start with a 236, while senior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) rolled a 202.
  • The Wildcats made it three-straight wins following an 889-866 win over Felician. Freshman Brenna Forsha (Tonawanda, N.Y.) rolled a 243, while Nowak posted her third-straight 200-game with a 200.
  • Daemen then posted an 892-798 win over Dominican behind the play of Forsha (243) and Nowak (191).
  • The Wildcats ran into a red-hot Caldwell team in its final match of the day, as the Cougars posted a 1,071-934 win over the Wildcats. Forsha capped off a solid day with a 246—the highest score posted by a Daemen bowler today. Nowak recorded her fourth 200-game (204) to help the Daemen cause.
  • Nowak and freshman Cassidy Papero (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) competed in all five matches today. Nowak totaled 1,065 pins for a 213.0 average. She placed seventh out of the 87 bowlers and missed earning a spot on the all-tournament team by just 21 pins.
  • Papero rolled a 178 in the win over St. Thomas Aquinas and the loss to Caldwell and finished with an 856 total pinfall (171.2 average).
  • Forsha and Gizicki competed in four matches. Forsha finished with an 886 total pinfall and a 221.5 average. Her average was highest among bowlers that competed in four matches and ranked fourth overall. Only bowlers that competed in all five matches today were eligible for all-tournament honors.
  • Gizicki finished with a total pinfall of 676 and a 169.0 average.
  • Sophomore Kayla Richardson (Webster, N.Y.) competed in the first three matches and rolled a 185 against St. Thomas Aquinas. Freshman Sabrina Palmer (Waterloo, N.Y.) posted a 178 against Dominican and a 152 against Caldwell.
  • Sophomore Bailey Glass (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) rolled a 165 against Adelphi, while freshman Chelsea Porga (Weland, Ont.) posted a 154 against Caldwell.
