The The 14-team tournament features six teams (Alvernia, Daemen, Emmanuel, Felician, Kutztown, Mercyhurst, ) that are ranked or receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II/III Poll released Feb. 8. The tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University. The Wildcats played five matches today, all of which were scored using Baker format. The Wildcats drew a bye in the first round and went 2-2 the rest of the day. Daemen rolled a 779 during the bye, before posting a 975-888 win over Chestnut Hill College. Daemen then suffered back-to-back loses to Alvernia (911-908) and Wilmington (982-841), before closing the day with an 864-856 win over Kutztown. Daemen sits in eighth place based on total pinfall. The Wildcats posted a total pinfall of 4,406. Wilmington sits atop the standings with a total pinfall of 5,103, while Emmanuel (4,835), Kutztown (4,742), Felician (4,680) and Mercyhurst (4,609) round out the top five. HIGHLIGHTS Daemen opened the day by rolling a 779 in the bye. Daemen then won all five games against Chestnut Hill, and rolled a 200 or better in each of the first three games. Daemen held a slim 739-730 lead after four games against Alvernia, but the Golden Wolves posted a 181-169 win in game five to earn the 911-908 victory. Wilmington opened up a 581-529 lead after posting a 204-172 win in game three and secured the win with a 254-167 win in game four. Daemen trailed Kutztown by 26 pins (690-664) after four games, but the Wildcats rallied for a 200-166 win in game five to pull out the 864-856 win. UP NEXT Day two of the tournament gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Wildcats will play five traditionally scored matches.
