Daemen, which entered the game ranked fourth in the East Region by the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC), improved to 21-7 overall and 11-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Saints dropped to 7-19 overall and 4-11 in the league. Daemen maintains its hold on third place in the ECC standings. It marked the fifth-straight win for the Wildcats, which ranks as the longest winning streak for the Wildcats this season. Daemen has averaged 96.6 points and has outscored its opponents by an average of 17 points over the five games. IMPACT PLAYERS Veterans Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) were recognized in a brief ceremony prior to playing in their final regular season home game. Daemen finished with five players in double figures. Hemphill made the most of his 18 minutes off the bench, as he recorded his fifth double-double of the season. MacDonald played 30 minutes in his final regular season game at Lumsden. He went 5-of-7 from the field and totaled 16 points. Senior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.), the reigning ECC Player of the Week, connected on 6-of-13 shots and totaled 16 points, five rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.) drilled three three-pointers and totaled 12 points, four rebounds and four assists, while senior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) scored 11 points. Atkins played 30 minutes and totaled nine points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in his regular season home finale. Five players scored in double figures for D'Youville, led by senior guard Bryson Birdsong who totaled 15 points. Redshirt sophomore Noah Hutchins added 12 points and 10 rebounds. GAME NOTES The win marked the 200th as Daemen head coach for Mike MacDonald. He has posted a 200-81 record in his 10 seasons at Daemen and owns a career record of 457-307 over 27 years. Daemen has prevailed in all 13 meetings between the two teams. Daemen has reached 20 wins for the sixth-straight season. The streak does not include the 2020-21 season, as Daemen only played 16 games during that COVID-10 shortened 2020-21 season. D'Youville scored the first two points of the game, but Daemen answered with a three-pointer by Glover and the hosts never trailed after that. Daemen held a 10-7 lead when the Wildcats embarked on an 18-6 run. A jumper by MacDonald with 5:13 left in the half capped the run and gave Daemen a 28-13 lead. The teams traded points the rest of the half and Daemen took a 39-24 lead into the break. The Wildcats opened the second half with a13-5 spurt and took a 23-point lead, 52-29, after Atkins made two free throws four minutes into the second half. The lead was 25 points, 61-36, with just under 13 minutes to play when the Saints put together a 14-3 run and cut the lead to 14 points. The Wildcats answered with a layup by Glover and a three-pointer by Fasoyiro to regain a 19-point lead and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the game. Daemen shot 53-percent (17-32) in the second half and finished 29-of-58 (50%) from the field overall. Daemen is now 10-0 this season when it shoots 50-percent or better from the field. The Wildcats made 9-of-20 from downtown and canned 24-of-30 free throws. D'Youville shot 44-percent (28-of-63) from the field overall and went 7-of-29 from downtown. The visitors connected on 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen closes out the regular season next Saturday (Mar. 2) at Roberts Wesleyan University.
