JOSEPH, Mo. – Junior Sam Pruitt netted seven goals to lead Missouri Western State University to a 17-5 victory over Daemen University this afternoon at Craig Field on the MWSU campus. The host Griffons improved to 5-2 on the year, while Daemen dropped to 0-6. Daemen women's lacrosse is entering its second season as a varsity sport. Head coach Dominique Hamman returns 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers to the 2024 roster. The Wildcats finished 7-9 in their inaugural season last spring. MWSU is a NCAA Division II affiliate and a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). MWSU returns four of the top eight scorers from last year's team that went 9-8 overall and 3-3 in GLVC play. MWSU was picked to finish fourth in the GLVC preseason poll. Sophomore Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) netted two goals for Daemen, while sophomore Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) went the distance in goal and made a career-high 21 saves. The Griffons scored the first four goals of the game and later took a 6-1 lead following a sophomore Sarah Ryals with 10:34 left in the second quarter. MWSU took a 9-2 lead into halftime. The Griffons opened the third quarter with five unanswered goals and took a 14-2 lead following a goal by redshirt freshman Jordan Porter with 5:30 left in the third. MWSU finished with a 43-16 edge in total shots and an 14-11 advantage in draw controls. Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats with a team-high four draw controls. Daemen will conclude its trip to The Show-Me State with a game at William Jewell College on Tuesday.
