ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's tennis team closed out the non-conference portion of its 2023-24 schedule with a 6-1 loss to Le Moyne College today this afternoon at South Towns Racquet Club. Daemen dropped to 5-9 on the year, while the Dolphins evened their record at 9-9.
The match was played under NCAA Division I/II scoring rules and the visiting Dolphins won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
Le Moyne secured the win with straight set wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Graduate student Leon Grundstroem defeated sophomore
Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.), 6-3, 6-3. Graduate student Alvaro Nunez got past junior
Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-4) and graduate student Kacper Piekarek outlasted freshman
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Colombia) at third singles (6-4. 6-3).
Daemen's lone point came at No. 6 singles where graduate student
Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, N.Y.) defeated graduate student Rodrigo Beires 7-6 (4), 6-4. Laplante is now a team-high 7-7 in singles play this season.
