AMHERST, N.Y. -- Competing for the first time since March 2022, the Daemen University cheerleading team posted a first place finish at the Great Lakes Championship in Edinboro, Pa. on Sunday evening, hosted by Shout Cheer and Dance. With their high score on Sunday, the Wildcats received a paid bid to the Virginia Beach Surfs Up National Championship, which will be held in Virginia Beach, VA on April 13-14.
The Wildcats have worked hard to get back to competition level, and head coach
Brianna Aichinger was proud of her team's success on Sunday. "Some of the Quotes we use are 'Lock in' and 'Let's go, Let's get it,' it's something we say to get the hype up before taking the floor," Aichinger said of the team. "We have had challenges in this past week with an injury, and had to rework the routine with one hour of practice. We take the floor again this weekend where we will actually be up against Daytona champions Elmira College. We will be back in the gym reworking this routine to enhance difficulty and skill."
Daemen will compete in their second meet of the season this upcoming weekend, March 9-10, in Orchard Park, N.Y. in the Queen City National Championship.
