Wildcats Down Pioneers For Third Win In Four Games

Bacher Nets Five Goals; Defense Allows Just Five Shots On Goal

CANTON, OHIO. – Senior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead Daemen University to a 20-1 victory over Malone University in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Pioneer Park on the Malone University campus. Daemen has won three of its last four games and improved to 4-8 overall. The host Pioneers dropped to 2-8.

Daemen women's lacrosse is entering its second season as a varsity sport. Head coach Dominique Hamman returns 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers to the 2024 roster. The Wildcats finished 7-9 in their inaugural season last spring. Malone is a NCAA Division II affiliate and a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). 2024 is the inaugural season of women's lacrosse at Malone. The school announced it was adding women's lacrosse on March 18, 2021.

It marked the fifth time in Bacher's career that she has scored five or more goals in a game. She has now netted 20 goals this season and a program-best 63 goals over the past two seasons. Sophomore Sylvie Dickerman (Corning, N.Y.) recorded a career-high five points on the day, as she finished with a goal and four assists. Sophomore Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored four goals today—one shy of her career-high. Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist and has now totaled a team-high 24 goals and 34 points on the year. It marked the 10th time in her career she has scored three or more goals in a game. Bouley also netted her 50th career goal today and has totaled 52 goals and 68 points over the past two seasons.

Sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) equaled her career-high with three goals and added an assist, three ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Freshmen Mikayla Myer (Geneva, N.Y.) and Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) added a goal and three assists each—which is a season high in points for both rookies.

Senior transfer Tatiana Wright (Stratford, Conn.) played the first half in net for the Wildcats and made two saves. Sophomore Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) played the second half and also stopped two shots. The Daemen defense, led by sophomores Jenna Havert (Newark, N.Y.) and Maddy Carpenter (Hilton, N.Y.), junior Gabi Accurso (Buffalo, N.Y.) and graduate student Aaliyah Deaton (Hickory, N.C.) limited Malone to just 10 total shots and five shots on goal, which ranks as the second fewest shots allowed in game in the two year history of the program.

Dickerman gave Daemen a 1-0 lead less than minute into the game and the Wildcats would take a 6-0 lead into the second quarter. Daemen increased its lead to 8-0 following goals by Castner and Miranto early in the second quarter, before the hosts got on the score board following a goal by freshman Jorjia Meza with 8:14 left before halftime. Bacher gave Daemen an 11-1 lead with 5:24 left in the quarter and the Wildcats would take a 12-1 lead into intermission. Daemen secured the win by outscoring the Pioneers 5-0 in the third quarter.

Daemen fired 38 shots at the Malone net and the Wildcats finished with a 38-10 edge in shots for the game. Daemen also posted a 13-6 advantage in draw controls. Miranto led Daemen with four draw controls.

CONFERENCE HONORS: Prior to today's game, Bouley and Castner were both named to the weekly East Coast Conference honor roll after leading Daemen to its 16-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday. Bouley equaled her career-high for goals (4) and also added one assist, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls in the win, while Castner scored three times and collected a career-high seven ground balls.

Daemen is idle until Saturday (April 6) when it travels to Molloy University for an East Coast Conference game.
