Molloy picked up its first conference of the year and improved to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. Daemen, which had won four of its last six games, dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the league. Daemen women's lacrosse is entering its second season as a varsity sport. Head coach Dominique Hamman returns 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers to the 2024 roster. The Wildcats finished 7-9 in their inaugural season last spring. Molloy returns several key players--including five 2023 all-conference selections--from last year's team that went 12-5 overall and 5-1 in ECC play. Sophomore Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) and junior Olivia Wade (Eden, N.Y.) both netted two goals for the Wildcats. Sophomore Abvery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) added two assists, while freshman Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) totaled a goal and an assist. Senior transfer Tatiana Wright (Stratford, Conn.) went the distance in net for Daemen and registered a season-high 20 saves. Senior Erin Murphy helped the Molly cause with four goals and one assist, while junior Megan Rugolo added two goals and two assists. Murphy gave Molloy a 1-0 lead just nine seconds into the game and the hosts held a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. The lead was 6-0 when the Wildcats got on the scoreboard following a goal by senior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) with 13:43 left in the second quarter. Molloy regained a seven-goal lead, 8-1, after Murphy scored with just under six minutes left before halftime, but Daemen got goals from Wade and sophomore Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) before the break and Molloy took an 8-3 lead into halftime. Molloy scored four aunanswered goals at the start of the third quarter to secure the win. Molloy finished with a 45-14 edge in shots for the game, while Daemen finished with a 15-11 edge in draw controls. Bouley led Daemen with five draw controls. Daemen is idle until next Sunday (April 14) when it hosts the University of the District of Columbia in an ECC game.
