Daemen has won five of its last eight games and improved to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the ECC. The visiting Firebirds dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in the league. Daemen women's lacrosse is entering its second season as a varsity sport. Head coach Dominique Hamman returns 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers to the 2024 roster. The Wildcats finished 7-9 in their inaugural season last spring. UDC returns seven players from last year's team that went 1-11 overall and 0-6 in ECC play. Freshman Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) totaled a goal and seven assists today, while senior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) added five goals and one assist. Calandra established a new program record for assists in a game, eclipsing the previous mark of six assists set by Casey Decatur during a 23-7 win at UDC last year. Calandra's eight points today were one shy of the program record set by Decatur (3 gls, 6 asts) last year against UDC. It marked the sixth time in Bacher's career that she has scored five or more goals in a game. She has now netted 26 goals this season and a program-best 69 goals over the past two seasons. Sophomore Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored four goals today—one shy of her career-high. Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist and has now totaled a team-high 29 goals and 41 points on the year. It marked the 11th time in her career she has scored three or more goals in a game. Bouley has now racked up 75 points (57 gls, 18 asts) over her two year career. Sophomore Olivia Wade (Eden, N.Y.) added three goals and one assist, while classmate Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists. Senior transfer Tatiana Wright (Stratford, Conn.) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and and faced just two shots on goal. The Daemen defense, led by sophomores Jenna Havert (Newark, N.Y.) and Maddy Carpenter (Hilton, N.Y.), junior Gabi Accurso (Buffalo, N.Y.) and graduate student Aaliyah Deaton (Hickory, N.C.) limited UDC to just two total shots, which ranks as the fewest shots allowed in game in the two year history of the program. Daemen scored four times in the first four minutes of the game and later took a 10-0 lead after Bacher scored off a pass from sophomore Abbey Kamas (Horeseheads, N.Y.) with 4:50 left in the first quarter. Wade gave the Wildcats a 14-0 lead at the 9:39 mark of the second quarter, before UDC got on the scoreboard following an unassisted goal by junior Michelle Mitchell. Daemen held a 16-2 lead at halftime and an 18-2 lead after three quarters. Daemen fired 34 shots at the UDC net and the Wildcats finished with a 34-2 edge in shots for the game. Daemen also posted a 21-5 advantage in draw controls. Miranto led Daemen with six draw controls.
