Wildcats Fall To Nationally Ranked Hawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seniors Maggie Fitzgerald and Jess Sullivan both registered six points to lead nationally ranked Saint Anselm College to an 18-5 victory over Daemen University in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Grappone Stadium on the Saint Anselm campus. Saint Anselm, which is ranked No. 22 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, improved to 9-5 on the year. Daemen dropped to 5-10.

Daemen women's lacrosse is entering its second season as a varsity sport. Head coach Dominique Hamman returns 12 players and welcomes nine newcomers to the 2024 roster. The Wildcats finished 7-9 in their inaugural season last spring. Saint Anselm is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). The Hawks posted a 13-5 overall record (8-4 NE-10) last year and was picked to finish third in the 2024 NE-10 preseason poll.

Junior Olivia Wade (Eden, N.Y.) totaled two goals and an assist to pace Daemen. Sophomore Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) netted two goals, while Daemen's other goal came off the stick of sophomore Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.). Bouley has now totaled a team-high 30 goals on the year, while Castner and Wade have both scored 21. Senior Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N.Y.) picked up an assist today and has now totaled 30 points (26 gls, 4 asts) on the year.

Sophomore Blair Pfohl (Lockport, N.Y.) played the first half in net for Daemen and registered six saves. Senior Tatiana Wright (Stratford, Conn.) played the second half and made three saves.

Senior Isabella Stuzynski helped the Saint Anselm cause with two goals and three assists, while classmate Alison Ferullo netted two goals.

The hosts opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the contest when Fitzgerald scored a player-up goal off a feed from Sullivan. The Wildcats evened the score two minutes later when Castner scored her 20th goal of the year off a nice feed from Wade. Saint Anselm scored the next four goals, before an unassisted goal by Wade made it 5-2 Saint Anselm with 1:24 left in the first quarter. The Hawks took a 6-2 lead into the second quarter and took control of the game with five unanswered goals over the first eight minutes of the second quarter. Saint Anselm held a 14-4 lead at halftime and a 15-5 lead after three quarters.

Saint Anselm finished with a 37-17 edge in shots for the game and the hosts also posted a 16-9 edge in draw controls. Bouley led Daemen with four draw controls.

Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play Wednesday (April 24) when it travels across town to face D'Youville University.
