Women's Soccer Drops Road Contest at Nationally-Ranked Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Senior Carly Issing scored twice for Adelphi University to propel them to a 5-0 victory over Daemen University in intercollegiate women's soccer action Wednesday morning at Motamed Field.
 
The Panthers, who entered the game ranked No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II national poll, improved to 2-1 while the Wildcats move to 0-3 on the year.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Daemen nearly struck first as a shot from junior Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) in the 5th minute rattled off the post to keep the two sides tied.
• The Panthers broke the deadlock in the 37th minute as Carly Issing received a pass from Madison Apicella and slotted the ball the top right corner to put Adelphi on the board. 
• Less than a minute later, Apicella doubled Adelphi's lead as she sent a ball into the bottom left corner of the goal off a pass from Issing on the left side of the box to make it 2-0 before halftime.
• Adelphi found the back of the net three more times in the second half to secure the win with Issing scoring her second of the game in the 62nd minute.
• The Panthers held a 27-4 advantage on shots and 6-3 edge for corners.
• Peyton DeRouen earned the win for Adelphi, making three saves across 79:43 of action with Alba López Martínez playing the final 10:17 of the contest. Junior Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made seven saves for Daemen while playing the full 90 minutes.
 
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the second meeting between the two sides. Adelphi now leads the all-time series, 1-0-1.
• Freshman Chloé Cardone (Hilton, N.Y.) made her first collegiate start against the Panthers.
• Senior Maddy Erno (Tully, N.Y.) and sophomore Lily Macfarlane (Murcott, England) each appeared in their first contest of the 2024 season.

UP NEXT
The Wildcats are idle until Sept. 17 when they head to Manchester, NH, to face Southern New Hampshire University. Kick-off from the Granite State is set for 1 p.m.
