Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Two first half goals proved to be the difference as the College of Staten Island defeated the Daemen University, 3-2, in East Coast Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex.
 
With the win, the Dolphins improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in ECC play while the Wildcats dropped to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Staten Island struck first in the 17th minute as Brendan Maguire collected a pass from Peterson Larose just outside the box and sent a shot into the back of net.
• The Dolphins doubled their edge right before halftime with a goal from Maguire in the 44th minute.
• Senior Emmanuel Perez (Los Angeles, Calif.) got the Wildcats on the board to begin the second half as he curled a ball into the top right corner of the net to make it a 2-1 game in the 54th minute.
• Still, the Dolphins had an answer as Miguel Espinosa tallied his first goal of the game less than a minute after Perez's goal to re-extend the Dolphins, 3-1.
• Senior Larry Noel (Nassau, Bahamas) closed out the scoring for the contest with his first goal of the season in the 79th minute.
• Daemen edged Staten Island on total shots, 17-15, and in corners, 4-1.
• Justin Karaburan made seven saves for his second win of the year. Senior Arturo Bustamante (South Gate, Calif.) made six saves for the Wildcats.
 
GAME NOTES

• Staten Island earned their first win of the series, but Daemen still leads overall, 3-1.
• Perez has now registered a point in four of his last five matches with his goal this afternoon.
• Noel scored his first goal since Sept. 23, 2023 which also came against Staten Island.
 
UP NEXT
Daemen is back in action on Sept. 28 when they head to Sparkill, N.Y., to play St. Thomas Aquinas College. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
