Women's Soccer Bucks Losing Streak with 5-2 Win over Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's soccer snapped their losing streak with a 5-2 thrashing of the College of the Staten Island in the first East Coast Conference game for both teams Saturday morning at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 1-0 in conference play and 1-4 overall while the Dolphins stumbled to 0-5-1 overall and 0-1 in ECC action.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Less than a minute into the match, the Wildcats got on the board as junior and ECC Preseason Player of the Year Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) lobbed a ball from her half of the field in the box where it bounced past Staten Island's Oksana Zahirna and into the back of the net.
• The Wildcats doubled their edge in the 12th minute when sophomore Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) launched the ball from just outside the box into the top right corner of the net.
• Freshman Kaitlyn Wright (Geneva, N.Y.) closed the first half scoring for Daemen in the 32nd minute as her shot curled into the low left corner of the goal for her first collegiate goal while putting the Wildcats ahead, 3-0.
• Staten Island got on the board for the first time in the 55th minute, but two goals by Miranto at the 61st and 90th minute to complete her hat trick secured the win for the Wildcats.
• Daemen outshot Staten Island, 26-14 and held a 15-8 edge on shots on goal.
• In net, junior Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) earned her first win of the 2024 campaign, making six saves while Zahirna made 10 saves in the losing effort. Each goalie played the entire 90 minutes between the sticks.
