BACK IN ACTION
The Daemen University women's soccer team will look to make for their third consecutive win when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College in East Coast Conference action. Kick-off from Spartan Field is set for 12 p.m.
WEEKLY HONORS
Juniors
Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and
Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) each earned a pair of weekly awards as Miranto was tabbed the ECC Offensive Player of the Week while Schultz was named the conferences Defensive Player of the Week. For Miranto, she scored her fourth career hat trick in Daemen's 5-2 win over the College of Staten Island on Sept. 21, hitting the back of the net in the first minute (:47), 61st minute, and 90th minute of play to lead the Wildcats to an ECC-opening win over the Dolphins. Miranto secured her first hat trick since Oct. 24, 2023, against crosstown rival D'Youville University snf now has four during her collegiate career. As for Schultz, the junior netminder made a career-high 15 saves while facing 32 total shots in the Cats 2-0 loss to No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University before recording six saves to backstop the Wildcats to their 5-2 ECC win over Staten Island. Last season, the duo were tabbed as both the offensive and defensive players of the week in the same week on two occasions.
FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET
Daemen has outscored their opponents, 10-2, during their last two games. Leading the offensive charge has been Miranto who has scored five goals with three against the College of Staten Island and two at Roberts Wesleyan University. Sophomore
Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) has also contributed two goals with one in each contest. In net, Schultz has made 11 saves over the last 180 minutes of action with six at Staten Island and five versus Roberts Wesleyan.
QUEEN BETWEEN THE STICKS
Through six games this season, Schultz ranks top-10 in the nation across multiple statistical categories. The Grand Island, N.Y., native, leads the ECC and is fourth in the nation for total saves with 48, highlighted by a career-high 15 stops against No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University on Sept. 17. The junior netminder also leads the ECC and is ninth nationally for saves per game with an average of 8.00. Sarah Cabera of Salem University (WV) (0-6) leads the nation in total saves with 93 and saves per game with an average of 15.50.
FINALLY GOING HOME
The Wildcats game against St. Thomas Aquinas represents their final of seven consecutive road games to begin the year. During those seven games, the Cats have traveled over 4,000 miles and cross three different states across New England and the Tri-State area. No other team in Western New York at the Division I, II or III level have gone or will undertake a longer road trip this season.
SCOUTING ST. THOMAS AQUINAS (0-4-2)
The Spartans remain winless through six games and have been outscored, 15-1, across their last three contests. Sarai Rodriguez and Amalie Steen lead St. Thomas Aquinas in goals with one each. In net, Catalena Robson has played in all six games with five starts, making 26 total saves.
SERIES HISTORY
Daemen leads the all-time series, 8-2-1, and has won the last four meetings. Last year, the Wildcats defeated the Spartans, 5-0, with Miranto recording a hat trick with
Tatyjana Scalisi and
Brooke Amato also tallying a goal each for Daemen in the win.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return home to face local rival Roberts Wesleyan on Oct. 2 with kick-off set for 1 p.m. This game will count towards the ECC standings unlike their previous meeting on Sept. 24.
