Women's Soccer Defeated by AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MA. – Gabby Williams scored in the 16th minute to give American International College the 1-0 victory over the Daemen University women's soccer team Sunday morning at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
 
The Yellowjackets pick up their second win of the season to move to 2-0-0 while the Wildcats drop to 0-0-2.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Scoreless after 15 minutes, the Yellowjackets got the lone goal of the game at the 15:28 mark as Williams received a pass from Leya Vohra and shot the ball into the back of the net.
• AIC edged Daemen in total shots, 13-9, but the Wildcats led in shots on goal, 3-2.
 • Sophomore Magda Carpenter (Lebanon, Conn.) and graduate student Madita Zeitz (Malsch, Germany) led Daemen with two shots each.
• Junior goalie Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) went the distance for Daemen and made one save. AIC used the tandem of Tia Kelk and Sara Avery to secure the win with each goalie playing one half.
 
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the second meeting between the Wildcats and Yellowjackets. AIC won the first meeting between the two sides last year, 2-1.
• Along with Schultz, senior Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.), junior Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.), Carpenter and Zeitz played the full 90 minutes.
• Senior defender Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.) made her first start of the 2024 campaign.

Daemen is back on the pitch on Sept. 11 against No. 4 Adelphi. Kick-off from Garden City, N.Y., it set for 11 a.m.
