AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen University women's volleyball players Keira Mullen (Farmingdale, N.J.) and Nahirka Malpica (Caguas, P.R.) were among the honorees with the announcement of East Coast Conference weekly awards today. Mullen was named the ECC Rookie of the Week while Malpica earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors, both for matches played Oct. 20-26.

Mullen equaled her career-high with 20 kills during Daemen's 3-1 win over D'Youville University on Oct. 22 - the Wildcats' lone match of the week. Mullen added nine digs, a service ace and a block assist while accounting for 21.5 points in the victory.

This marks the third time this season that Mullen has earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors. She was previously recognized in back-to-back weeks in Sept. (Sept. 15-21 & Sept. 22-28). The New Jersey native has now recorded 10+ kills in 12 matches this season, including 10 of her last 12 outings. She leads Daemen with 224 kills and ranks fourth among the ECC leaders in kills per set (3.20).

Malpica, the ECC Preseason Player of the Year, picks up her first weekly accolade of the season after registering 15 digs and a season-high three blocks in the win over DYU. It marks the fifth weekly award of Malpica's career, and her third Defensive Player of the Week selection.

Malpica leads Daemen with 199 digs this season, and ranks seventh among the ECC leaders in digs per set (2.80). She has posted 10+ digs in nine matches this season, recording six double-doubles along the way. The 5-foot-8 senior is also producing 3.00 kills per set, and ranks second on the team with 216 kills.

In addition, graduate student Avery Dole (Summerfield, N.C.) was named to the ECC weekly honor roll. Dole matched her season-high with 25 assists and added 11 digs in Daemen's defeat of the Saints.

The Wildcats (8-11, 4-2 ECC) return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 29 when they welcome the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks to Lumsden Gymnasium.
