Women's Soccer Downs Staten Island on Senior Day

AMHERST, N.Y. Daemen secured a decisive 3-0 victory on senior day over Staten Island Saturday at Royal Park.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Momentum shifted in the Wildcats' favor in the 32nd minute when Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored, assisted by Kaitlyn Wright (Geneva, N.Y.), putting the home team ahead, 1-0. 
  • The two players then reversed roles for Daemen's second goal in the 36th minute, with Wright finding the back of the net off a pass from Miranto, putting the score at 2-0.
  • Daemen maintained momentum in the second half, with Wright netting her second of the contest in the 62nd minute, assisted by Victoria DiCarlo (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Macayla Hansen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), making it 3-0
  • The first half began with Daemen establishing early offensive pressure, highlighted by three attempts from Kaitlin Mettler (Royalton, N.Y.), including a shot saved by CSI's goalkeeper, Oksana Zahirna. 
  • Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) contributed defensively for Daemen with crucial saves, maintaining a clean sheet.
  • Miranto had more chances when she ripped a shot that hit off the post in the 25th minute and had a shot saved in the 33rd minute. 
  • Brianne Repolio (Haddon Heights, N.J.) also put a shot wide in the 31st minute. 
  • Schultz continued to be a strong presence in goal, making multiple key saves to preserve the clean sheet. 
  • Daemen's offense remained aggressive, with eight attempts from Miranto in the second half, though the Dolphins' defense managed to hold firm.
  • Kendall Akers (Brockport, N.Y.) also had a shot saved in the 87th minute. 
GAME NOTES
  • The Wildcats honored seniors Bella Astudillo (Greece, N.Y.), Nevada Hahn (Lancaster, N.Y.), Alexis Nguyen (Grand Island, N.Y.), Miranto, and Schultz before the game.
  • Schultz delivered a solid defensive performance, recording six saves and maintaining a shutout over 90 minutes. 
  • Schultz posted her fourth shutout of the season.
  • Wright contributed significantly on offense, scoring two goals and adding an assist.  Her five points marked a career-high for the sophomore. 
  • Miranto scored the game-winning goal and also provided an assist, while leading the team with 12 shots and six on goal.
  •  It marked Miranto's seventh game with three-plus points this season. 
  • Hansen added to the attack with an assist, helping to set up a successful play.
