HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Daemen women's track and field team opened its indoor season at the Houghton December Classic on Friday.
The Wildcats had top-three finishes in running events from Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) and their 4x400 relay team. Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y.) also recorded a second-place result in the weight throw.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Oberholzer started the day strong for the Wildcats, placing third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:20.28. Kylie Piekarski (Lancaster, N.Y.) came in two places behind her in fifth at 20:16.72.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) took fourth, crossing the finish line in 9.68 seconds. Skylar Savage (Attica, N.Y.), finished one spot behind Schultz, posting a time of 9.73 seconds. Her time of 9.66 seconds in the prelims was a personal best.
- Savage placed seventh in the 60-meter dash final, crossing the finish line in 8.24 seconds. She also posted a PR in the prelims with a time of 8.15 seconds.
- In the 600 meters, Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) placed sixth, clocking in at 1:44.90.
- Freshman Delaney Kaiser (Fredonia, N.Y.) took 16th out of 53 sprinters in the 200 meters with a time of 27.96.
- The Wildcats' 4x400 relay team of Savage, Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.), Kaiser, and Brasacchio took third place, coming in at 4:24.49.
- Off the track, the Wildcats had strong performances from their throwers, including Oliver, who placed second in the weight throw with a final distance of 14.66 meters.
- Julia Petry (Batavia, N.Y.) finished fourth in the shot put with her final throw going 11.13 meters, marking a new personal best.
- Savage also performed well at the jump pit, placing fourth in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.31 meters. Shultz finished seventh in the event with a distance of 4.92 meters.

The Wildcats will have some time off before resuming their indoor season at the Brockport Invitational on Jan. 17.
