Men's Track & Field Concludes Indoor Season at the ECC Championships

Wildcats finish in eighth

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's track & field team wrapped up its 2024-25 indoor season at the East Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Sunday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Wildcats totaled 24 points to finish eighth out of nine competing teams. Holy Family University compiled 147 points to claim their third straight conference title. 

Junior Adam Kamagate (Hilton, N.Y.) claimed the title in the men's 60 meter hurdles to highlight the 'Cats performances at the event. 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Prior to the meet, sophomore Brad Tobin (Hamburg, N.Y.) was honored with the ECC Elite 20 Award. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the ECC's 20 championships.
 
• Beginning on the track, Kamagate won his heat with a time of 8.68 seconds. In the final, the Hilton, N.Y., native edged out Raqeeb Somoye of Holy Family by .01 seconds to claim the men's 60 meter hurdles title with a time of 8.39 seconds. 
• His time of 8.39 seconds also set a new program record as well, beating his previous time of 8.45 seconds which he set on Jan. 17 at the Brockport Friday Nigh Rust Buster. 
• In the one mile run, sophomore CJ Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) finished in third with a time of 4:31.56.
• Tobin placed sixth in the 1,000 meters as he finished the race in 2:44.16. 
• The Wildcats earned two top 10 finishes in the 3,000 meters, highlighted by sophomore Ethan Keating (Wooster, Ohio), who placed third (9:04.30).
• Off the track, sophomore Giorden Martin finished 11th out of 21 jumpers in the long jump with a final distance of 6.21 meters.

UP NEXT
Daemen will begin the outdoor portion of their schedule on March 29 at 10 a.m. when they head to the Highlander Invitational, hosted by Houghton University.
